Commodore 128 Alive! Newsletter
November 2006
First off, seasons greetings to all our guests & members! 2007 is just about on us - another year has rolled by.

January 5th sees the 22nd birthday of the C128 - it was shown at the Winter CES on that day in 1985. 2007 is remarkable for another milestone in Commodore history as well; the PET was released in 1977 starting off the whole run of Commodore 8 bit machines.

Changes in the forums from  the previous issues :

eBay auctions relating to the 128 are now being imported - this is (after some problems with my PHP code) now automatic. The auctions are scanned in every second Saturday (this is to prevent duplicates from showing up).

A cleanup of the userbase was done to remove spam registrations, I managed to kill off around 30 bodgy users. Since then, I've added a module that now does basic authentication on registrations & should cull out these fake users. It hasn't been a major problem up to date but might as well kill off these accounts before the board gets over-run with porn & adverts for irrelevant items.

On the main site (www.commodore128.org) there's been a few new additions :

Downloads have now mostly been cleaned up & migrated (with the exception of CP/M, GEOS & other operating systems)
There is now an area on the site for magazine ads - please send in any scans you may have to landover@tpg.com.au - anything you send in will be published & obviously you'll be credited on the site. Thanks to those that have already submitted material for inclusion.

Magazine disks are now available as well for download - so far we have 64'er, Ahoy, Commodore Disk User & reRun disks up. Compute's! Gazette type-ins are available for 1986, 87 & 88. More to come in that category. As well, 128'er, LoadStar, Uptime & Compute!'s gazette disks still need to be added in.

Need to do some work on the FAQ & I'd like to invite our members to assist. The FAQ is at http://www.commodore128.org/faq.html - if you can contribute to the missing parts, leave a message on the forums with your additions & I'll get 'em in.

Work on the first Commodore 128 Alive! PDF magazine is on track (sort of) - although I had planned on releasing the first issue this month, it now looks like the last half of January will be more like it. Submissions for this would be most welcome!

We've started a programming contest - the C128 4k games contest. There will be prizes available, for details check the thread at  http://landover.no-ip.com/128/viewtopic.php?id=387
Get your submissions in - you have until the 1st of April 2007! (So no excuses!)
