New feature - Wiki
« on: May 07, 2012, 11:48 AM »
Some time back there was a discussion around collating the vast amount of information in the forums in an easy to use way. I've just installed DokuWiki on the site as a Commodore wiki. For editing, you will need to create a user on the wiki (it can integrate with SMF but only one way (ie SMF can read the user details on the DokuWiki side only). There is an auth module but so far it is only for SMF 1.x so we may need to wait for full integration.

To make things a little easier I've given it a MediaWiki skin (and you can use the MediaWiki syntax too).

I chose DokuWiki because it is a LOT lighter on resources than MediaWiki.

There is further customisation to do but it is largely functional. Once the new site front end is done it'll be available from there as well. In the meantime head over to http://www.commodore128.org/wiki and start writing articles :)

Although it's called "128wiki" it is of course for all Commodore 8 bit and Amiga models - and anything else that fits in too. Like Wikipedia it's freely editable so feel free to add what you want.

cheers,

Lance

I thought a good place to start would be a catalog of Commodore BASIC commands.  It should benefit any user of the 8-bit machines, although it should be most useful to C128 owners.  I'm not sure if there is a website that has such a feature.  Of course you can find the info in a trusty book or PDF file, but I think web pages are more convient... easier to edit anyway.

I created a complete list of all the tokens from version 1.0 to 7.0, although I only made a few entries for actual commands (IF, THEN, ELSE, GOTO, BEGIN, BEND).  Everyone with some CBM BASIC experience is encouraged to add in the missing ones.  If not then that's okay; I'll get around to it eventually.  But if you know me, that could be a very long time!

Although the full list of BASIC commands is not complete, I did manage to complete the list of disk commands.  If you are familiar with these commands from the PET (version 4.0), C16, Plus 4, or C128, then double check them.  Aside from mispellings and some strange behaviors / side effects, I think the info should be fairly accurate.

I think I read somewhere that a BVERIFY command was added to BASIC 10.0 (or whatever is in the mythical C65), but even if it is true, I don't know what token it has assigned.

According to the C65 manual, BVERIFY has the token FE,28.  See

     http://www.zimmers.net/cbmpics/cbm/c65/c65manual.txt

and go almost halfway down the document to see the list of commands.

Wow, that's quite a document!  Too bad it never went into production; the DMA and video capabilities are impressive.  Not to mention a BASIC to use it.

I wanted to report that I've completed all the entries for the statments, commands, functions, and prepositions of BASIC versions 1.0 and 2.0.  Also completed are the disk commands from BASIC v3.5 to v7.0.  Still missing most of the commands and functions from BASIC v3.5 and v7.0 (mostly the cool sound and graphics).  Also missing some boring stuff like reserved variables and operators.  Check it out here.

That's a lot of material, some of dubious quality, but one thing I'm proud of is the PETSCII table under the CHR$() function.  It is quite different from the one on wikipedia because I wrote it myself from various resources.  It is not as pretty, but at least it lists the equivalant ASCII and Unicode values for both lower/upper and upper/graphic character sets, along with common keyboard mappings and descriptions of non-printing characters (editor functions like Home and cursor-right).

I could not find a Unicode equivalant for a few (about 16) characters  (I did not search very hard).  Maybe they do not exist, but due to the sheer size of Unicode, that is hard to believe.  So if anyone knows the correct values, please update the page.

I guess when I finish everything up to v7.0, I can go back and add the v10 keywords.  Of course everyone is welcome to beat me to it

You're welcome.  Looking at the PETSCII table after a night of rest, I noticed it was missing an important piece of information.  So at the risk of making a complicated table incomprehensible, I added a column for screen codes.  I hope the utility outways the confusion.

I've red linked a few more articles in the 128 Products List and have started going through scans of old magazines to identify and describe the programs.

Added entry for Alpha Utility by ALPHASOFT.

The entry named ALPHA FILE appears to be by the same author.

I can only locate one reference for Alpha Utility - a small advert in Compute!'s Gazette Issue #40.
