Charset replacement
« on: November 17, 2011, 05:04 AM »
Hi, I have a 128DCR with the U18 2364 charset prom broken and need to be replaced. Anyone knows if a 2764 eprom can be used as a replacement ?  The 2364 have 24 pins, the U18 socket and the 27c64 have 28 pins but looking on the schematics is not clear if will works.
Thanks !

You certainly can, you'll just need one of these:  http://store.go4retro.com/2364-adapter/

OK, with the adapter sure will work. But the question is if will work directly inserted on the socket. According the schematics J16 and J18 should be cutted and J15 and J17 should be connected.  Anyone tried before go ahead ?
Thanks.

I've used these to replace KERNAL/BASIC/CHAR roms.  All I had to do was burn the rom to the 2764, plop it in that adapter and plug it in.  Nothing to cut etc.  The adapter already reroutes the pins as needed (hence the little circuit board).  The adapter can actually do much more but that's for another day/thread.
