Hi Alex,

have a look at www.arcadeforge.de. I bought my case there.
I have mounted a small fan on the heatsink too (photo attached.)

Best regards,
Dirk

Nice case for the gbs-8220 circuit board and adding the fan is a great idea.
Most definitely a good idea.

Thanks!  I will consider it.  Now all I have to do is figure out an enclosure for the Video DAC itself.

Are there any more units left for sale?

Sorry, but all of the C128 Video DAC units have been sold and shipped.  Thanks to everyone who bought one; I sold 29 of them.  As promised, I have put together all of the design documents for this project, so that in the future an interested person may manufacture another batch.  The documents are in a ZIP file attached to this message.

You're welcome.  I forgot to mention, the .sch and .brd files included are Eagle files.  Some board houses (including the one that I used: www.custompcb.com) will take the .brd file directly.

UGH!  Silly silly me.

SO I finally assembled mine today and guess what, I wasn't paying attention and incorrectly assumed the GBS8220 output for the power was 5VDC.  Needless to say the chips on the DAC released their magic smoke when the 12VDC was passed through to them.  Time to order some replacement chips..... /sigh

No joke.  I removed the chips and have replacements on order.  I did assemble my second board and it works just fine.  But now I have a new problem, the recent batch of LCD's I got (13" 4:3 aspect ratio) don't have VGA input.  Only svideo/component/composite.  BOO!  So it would seem I need yet another adapter to convert the VGA to svid or component, or perhaps something completely different from the 8220 to convert CGA to svideo.

Oh, and I get to repair the other board because when cleaning up the solder after removing the chips I lifted one pad. :(  Not my week I guess. :)

S-Video input is actually very good.  It means you do not need a fancy adapter for frequency conversion / line doubling.  Anyway, I would not recommend trying to convert from RGB to VGA then again to S-Video... I imagine it would look bad even with high-quality components.  For an S-Video monitor, see this thread.  It's a bit long, so to summarize, a cheap RGB to S-Video adapter (such as this one) will give you 8 colors, and builiding a simple ($10 parts) board will give you all 16 colors and the output looks great for both standard and interlace modes.

SO with the CV-04 board I wouldn't need to use my RGBI-CGA DAC board?

Sorry for late reply, did not see that last post until today.  Hopefully you got it all working by now :)  Anyway, with CV-04 you would get only 8 colors without some kind of converter like Richard's video DAC, as I understand.  (I don't own his DAC, but instead use a passive solution "pull-both").

Here's my C128 Video Dac running thru svideo on a older 20" lcd 4:3 TV.

This is running thru a RGB to Svideo adapter from Amiga Maniac. Works well for NTSC text, but the VDC demos freak it out.
The TV has a auto RCA/Svideo switch box attached, so if I'm not using the 80 Col (i.e. no usable signal from it), it automatically switches back to the 40 col output.

Later,
dabone
