Unscheduled downtime
« on: March 17, 2011, 08:15 AM »
Guys,

Over the last week the site has been subjected to an enormous amount of 'requests' coming from a range of German IP's.

Generally, we run about 15 gigs of traffic on a heavy month which was under the 20gb limit I had with MD.

This month due to the inbound traffic, we were running around 3gb a day - it clobbered the useage allowance.

I've moved hosts to an unlimited one that also has a greater storage capicty (200gb) and is cheaper as well.

With the extra space I'll be expanding the site to include a lot more than just the forums as well.

My apologies for the downtime.

cheers,

Lance

I didn't think this site got that much traffic, so I figured it was those German spam bots that caused the issue.  I'm glad you got the site back up so quickly.  It is only half-way through March, and I don't know if I could go another half month without my C128 'fix'.  So thanks, Lance!

More bandwidth at a lower price?  Sweet.  So there you have the positive side effect of spam.  And I bet you thought their were none.
I'm kupo for kupo nuts!

I like the idea of the 200gb space - the forums take up about 1gb in total so I can do several expansions I've been thinking of. Need a web designer though to create a few page templates for me (I have the artistic/design skills of a wet cat in a bath).

Agreed.  After going a few days without this C128 site, I was starting to get nervous.  All is good now!
