Herdware / Re: C128 Power Light ON but Blank Monitor Screen
« on: March 31, 2013, 10:40 PM »
The 9vac has a fuse on the power supply.
It's converted into 5v inside the 128 and provides power to the z80 cpu.
The z80 is the master cpu for booting the computer, so no 9vac, no post.
Replace the fuse in the power supply, check the voltages, and then try again.

One of your 128s is blowing the fuse.

Here's my C128 Video Dac running thru svideo on a older 20" lcd 4:3 TV.

This is running thru a RGB to Svideo adapter from Amiga Maniac. Works well for NTSC text, but the VDC demos freak it out.
The TV has a auto RCA/Svideo switch box attached, so if I'm not using the 80 Col (i.e. no usable signal from it), it automatically switches back to the 40 col output.

Herdware / Re: How to check a C128D (Plastic Case) PSU
« on: January 06, 2012, 10:33 PM »
No 9volt will show that fault, the z80 cpu is powered from the 9v supply. Check the z80 for +5v on pin 11. If this isn't there then the machine only shows a black screen as the z80 is the initial boot processor.

I finally got around to building mine last week, and after a brain fart. (I blame the hangover), I got it to display today.
I'm running a NEC AccuSync LCD71v with it and watching Risen From Oblivion in glorious 16 colors!
Great piece of hardware, I also dug out the Tandy 1000sx and gave it a try, it works great on it, Thexder looks and plays fine.
You have another market of users to sell to.
(Maybe get enough interest to do yet another run.)

I've got 3 different LCD monitors here that do 15k. I can't wait to try it on them.

I've used standard db9 extension cables for my monitor cables just fine. I've got one 1084 that is m/m and the other requires m/f.

Waiting for that email....  ;D

I want one for my 128 and for use on my Tandy 1000sx.
I'm not using a scan converter because I actually have 3 lcd monitors that sync to 15k.

Herdware / Re: Noob guide to JiffyDOS on a 128DCR?
« on: September 11, 2011, 12:23 AM »
Yeah, Jiffydos is now available legally now, and Jim Brain stands behind his products. I've bought a couple of uiec's, a zoom floppy, jiffy dos for the 64, and some jiffy licences only. He always replies quickly to problems and even helped me out quite a but when I was building a wiport wireless adapter for the commodore.

The noise problem went away and now I get a good solid picture.  I spent a little bit of time tweaking the resistors and got the following image.  What do you think?  Time to lay out the board?

YES!.

When I worked on connecting a original psx to a arcade monitor, I extracted composite sync from the composite video signal using a lm1881 circuit. It's a little hard to get a good clean sync on the scope using a perfboard, but should be good enough for a test. I'll try this when I can get to it, I think I have a couple left in the parts bin.

I've got one of those boards also, and I've had no real luck with it. Either with my 128 or Amigas.
To me these boards are a complete waste of money.

BTW, CGA is a accepted term in the arcade business, and the old cga arcade monitors are 15k and 0 to +5 ANALOG input levels.
(I used to collect and repair arcade machines)
So in theory a arcade style cga to vga should work, just not these.

FWIW.. Most people don't remember CGA as a digital monitor signal, so whenever you see something listing cga compatibility assume Arcade style cga.

Here is a Brand new LCD display that should work just fine with the c128 video port.

Anything except McAfee or Norton!
Lets put this crap on a windows 7 box and watch it run like a 386.(And I'm even talking Springdale chips here.)

Honestly, right now I prefer security essentials. Nothing will keep you completely safe, but it does a decent job. It's up to you not to click on everything that moves.  ;)

There are a few 15k analog to 31.5k converters available, what I would love to see is a rgbi to analog rgb board that could fit in a db9 hood. Then you could add them to a product like this one.

http://www.miba51.com/CoCo_VGA_Adpater.html

This is a nice, stable 16bit analog 15k upscaler, It would work with my amiga 500, coco3, Snes, Genesis, Jamma Arcade boards, etc. And with a rgbi adapter then we could use it with the c128 and ibm cga systems.

Just my 2 cents.

I've got mine working on svideo. I still have to muck around with the resistors to get the colors right, but I have a stable display.

I'm using a rgb to svideo adapter from amigamaniac.
I've got a v2.0 he now makes version 3, I haven't tried the new version but it should be fine.
http://www.amigamaniac.com/RGB_to_PAL_NTSC_adapter.html

I've paired this up with the RGBI to RGB adapter from this page.
http://sites.google.com/site/h2obsession/CBM/C128/rgbi-s-video

When I get back around to it, I'm going to remake the board using 1.5k  pots so I can play with it and get the values for the best pic.

Herdware / Re: Composite-to-VGA converter recommendation
« on: April 02, 2011, 02:27 AM »
I bought one of the ones listed at the top of the page and the following one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/TV-AV-RCA-Composite-s-video-PC-VGA-converter-adapter-/220742070264?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336540aff8

I actually prefer the ebay one. The one from amazon show some weird artifacting around moving objects, (Like sprites moving around or the cursor on my amigas.) I'm using both with a 15" LCD TV 1024x768 with VGA in. (I'm mainly using them currently as a PAL to VGA converter for my amigas. But I did try them with NTSC c64s)

I think it is superfluous if you use a proper copying program, one that can load files into whichever memory position and save those back to the same position

Any what program would that be?

The pet reads the tapes I'm making fine it seems, it's just finding a program that loads off the disk and writes to the tape I need.

Quote
A third way to transfer files might be if you make a PRLINK or PC64 cable to connect a PC directly to the userport of the PET. Assuming that connection is made working, you should be able to use cbmlink to transfer files directly into the PET memory and from there save to tape if you need them later on. Have you considered this setup?

I was trying to get away with not having to make anything. I also cannot use any disk drive or ieee adapter for the pet because mine has the original roms that don't support disk access.(I looked at adding ieee to one of my 1541s but that put a stop to that.)

Thanks.

I'm trying to get some software onto a tape for my pet. I have a 128 and a datacassette, and can read the pet tape I have, and I can load programs from it. I've tried the following program in c64 mode.

100 CIA = 56576:VIC = 53248:VRAM = 648:BSTART = 43:BTERM = 55:NMIVEC = 792
110 POKE CIA, PEEK(CIA) AND 252 OR 1:REM SELECT VIC MEMORY BANK #2 ($8000 - $BFFF)
120 POKE VIC+24, PEEK(VIC+24) AND 15:REM SET VIDEO RAM TO START OF BANK
130 POKE VRAM,128
140 POKE NMIVEC,193:REM POINT VECTOR TO RTI (DISABLE STOP/RESTORE)
150 POKE BSTART+1,4:REM SET START OF BASIC RAM TO $0401
160 POKE 1024,0:REM ENSURE BYTE AT NEW BASIC START - 1 IS NULL
170 POKE BTERM+1,128:SET END OF BASIC RAM TO $8000
200 POKE VIC+32,0:POKE VIC+33,0:REM SET BORDER/BACKGROUND COLOR TO BLACK
210 PRINT "{green}{clr}### COMMODORE BASIC ###"
220 PRINT " 31743 BYTES FREE."
230 NEW

This program sets up the 64 like a larger Pet, basic starts at 1025 and it's giving it 32k of ram. Can anybody modify this to reflect a 2001 vic with 8k of ram. Or is it ok the way it is?

I load and run this program, then load the pet prg from my uiec and then save to tape.

So far I've transfered space invaders and pinball fine. It this just fine for most pet programs, or is there something else I should be using?

Thanks,
