Greetings, C= and Ami comrades! If you should be in the San Francisco area May 18-19, you are invited to the Bay Area 2013 Maker Faire at the San Mateo Events Center, 1346 Saratoga Dr., San Mateo, California. Join the thousands and thousands of people who attend this annual event. Maker Faire runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. This year is extra special, because Erik Klein of Vintage-Computer.com has invited other classic computerists to share his tables. So, in the limited space that has been assigned for each computerist, the Fresno Commodore User Group will have an exhibit - a classic Commodore 64 system and a classic Amiga 2000 system. Not only will we have games running on the systems for all to play, but we will also have the Relax Stress Reduction System for the C64 and the Haitex X Specs 3D Stereoscopic Glasses for the Amiga. Expand your mind with these fun curiosities! Who knows?! I might be able to squeeze in a modded C64 DTV 30-games-in-one joystick and the ArcadeRetroGaming.com Multiple Classic Computer 216 (MCC-216). And in the rest of the table space, Erik and others are bringing in a HP 87 with disk drive and a paper tape punch, a modded Atari 400, a modded Amiga 600, and Apple II hardware. You can find our Vintage Computers' tables in the Expo Hall. For more information on the program and schedule, how to get there, a map of the venue, go to http://makerfaire.com Truly, Robert Bernardo Fresno Commodore User Group http://videocam.net.au/fcugP.S. Catch Jeri Ellsworth as she wanders Maker Faire with a few new prototypes... !

Happy Cinco de Mayo, C= and Ami aficionados! The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, May 5, at -- Bobby Salazar's Mexican Restaurant 2839 North Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Michigan) Fresno, California Note the date for this month's meeting; we had to change the meeting from our usual third Sunday of the month due to the May 18-19 Maker Faire ( http://makerfaire.com/ ). We will have a Commodore and Amiga exhibit at that fantastic event! For May we concentrate on the PET 4032; we'll be checking various programs that work on the 40-column screen of the PET 4032. We'll also delve more into the VIC-20 programs found on the Toronto PET User Group Library CD. Finally, if we have time, we'll look at the C64 pictures and tunes which were entered in the compo at Gubbdata 2013 in Sweden. Not to mention talk of CommVEx v9 2013, Robert Bernardo Fresno Commodore User Group http://videocam.net.au/fcug July 27-28 Commodore Vegas Expo v9 - http://www.portcommodore.com/commvex

It's been a long time in coming, and there was publishing delay after delay, but now Brian Bagnall's new book, "Commodore: the Amiga Years", is set to be released on July 1. This is confirmed by Brian's website at http://variantpress.com/books/commodore-the-amiga-years/and by the latest e-mail from Amazon.com which I received a few days ago and which had this link - http://www.amazon.com/dp/0973864990/ref=pe_259560_29109160_pd_re_dt_lm6The book not only tells about the Commodore Amiga but also the Commodore 8-bit computers which CBM built after 1984, the year at which Brian's previous book, "Commodore: a Company on the Edge", had stopped in the history of the company. Commodore: a Company on the Edge is still available, for example at http://www.amazon.com/Commodore-Company-Edge-Brian-Bagnall/dp/0973864966/ I've pre-ordered my copy of Commodore: the Amiga Years! Back on July 12, 2007, after the E3 Expo in Los Angeles, Commodore Gaming had a party to celebrate their Commodore Gaming PCs that had just come out. Not only did they show off their gaming PCs, but they also exhibited a C64 and PET which the partygoers could use. For the party, they invited several C= luminaries -- Seth "Naughtyboy" Sternberger of 8 Bit Weapon performed his music, and CBM engineer Bil Herd and engineer Jeri Ellsworth spoke. "Commodore Gaming Party 2007" can be found at http://blip.tv/episode/6567339The party room at the Santa Monica restaurant was very dark, and so, the video is very grainy. My original report can be found at http://www.commodore.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1139and photos of the party can be found at http://www.dickestel.com/gamingparty07.htm Those were the days, Robert Bernardo Fresno Commodore User Group http://videocam.net.au/fcug July 27-28 Commodore Vegas Expo v9 - http://www.portcommodore.com/commvex

Happy St. Patty's Day, C= and Ami aficionados! The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, March 17, at -- Bobby Salazar's Mexican Restaurant 2839 North Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Michigan) Fresno, California This month we concentrate on Creative Micro Design's SuperCPU! With all the renewed interest due to VICE now having SuperCPU 64 emulation, we take a look at what the SCPU can do with real Commodores. We'll look at the following programs under SCPU control -- 3D Pool, Asteroids emulator, Zoomania, Silicon Dreams, and WinC64. Last month we were not able to demonstrate the C64 video digitizer, Video Byte II (including Super Explode V5.0). This time we'll have a gender changer for its video cable, and we'll use it on a C64 (instead of last month's SX-64). In Amiga hardware, I'm lugging in the Amiga 1200 Tower which runs Amiga OS 3.9. More specifications on it can be found at http://retro-link.com/smf/index.php?topic=251.0 Last but not least, we'll try out some of the latest games for the VIC-20. Truly, Robert Bernardo Fresno Commodore User Group http://videocam.net.au/fcugP.S. From Southern California, member Charles G. may be video-chatting with us from Southern California.

Having done his first successful repairs on early and late model RAMLinks, and finding a source for GAL chips, veteran Commodore repair technician Ray Carlsen is announcing that he will repair RL's. This is what he wrote: ------------- > Ray, are you now fully committed to doing RL repairs? Or are you still testing the waters? I believe I'm as ready as I'll ever be. Schematics are not forthcoming, so if I encounter a problem that is not one of those IC's, there is nothing anyone could do except chip (the rest of them) swaps and seat-of-the-pants diagnosis of how each chip is supposed to function. That's the kind of thing that can really eat up bench time but I'm willing to try. To do that, I'd have to socket all of the chips in both versions of RL I use as test beds. Ray ------------- Ray has his RAMLink findings up at his site at http://personalpages.tds.net/~rcarlsen/cbm/misc/rl/ For questions or repair requests, send a message to Ray at rcarlsen(at)tds.net Truly, Robert Bernardo Fresno Commodore User Group http://videocam.net.au/fcug

Also SCCAN member Richard G. may be bringing his "game museum". Naturally, the SX-64 and SuperCPU will be there with a selection of games. (Well, this could have been posted in the VIC-20 and KIM-1 areas of the forum, too.) Yes, you read that right. One of our club members ordered several 6502's from Bulgaria. These seem to be clones of the MOS chips, and from what he could tell, they may be pulls from old equipment, cleaned up with the pins re-tinned. He has tried them out, and they work perfectly in his test bed VIC-20. They are relatively inexpensive, too. So if you need some 6502's for your VIC-20 or PET or KIM-1, he can lead you to the two distributors in Bulgaria. Saw them at today's user group meeting, Robert Bernardo Fresno Commodore User Group http://videocam.net.au/fcug
